Meet Our Team

MATT SCHULZ

Partner | Attorney at Law

Matt grew up in Bedford, Indiana. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Indiana University, with a double major in Criminal Justice and Political Science. Upon graduation, he joined the United States Army, serving on active duty as an air traffic controller. Matt deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and received an honorable discharge in 2006. While serving, Matt completed night courses at Webster University and earned a Master of Arts from the School of Business and Technology in Management and Leadership.

 

After completing his military service, Matt took advantage of the G.I. Bill and attended law school, graduating cum laude from the Indiana University Maurer School of Law. Upon graduation, Matt served as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in Monroe County, Indiana before opening Schulz Law Office in Bloomington, IN in 2013.  Matt partnered with respected Bloomington attorney Kara L. Reagan in the fall of 2018 to form Schulz Reagan, LLC.

 

Matt focuses his practice in the areas of criminal defense and family law. He has experience trying cases in jury trials and bench trials. While some cases go to trial, Matt is also experienced in negotiating plea agreements in criminal cases and in helping family law clients resolve sensitive issues through mediation and negotiation.  He understands each case is unique and takes pride in helping clients through difficult times.  Matt is a Registered Domestic Relations Mediator in the State of Indiana. 

 

In addition to his law practice, Matt has an extensive teaching background. He taught criminal justice and legal studies courses at Ivy Tech Community College-Bloomington for over ten years, where he served as Assistant Professor and Department Chair of the Criminal Justice and Legal Studies departments.  He also also served as adjunct faculty at the Indiana University Maurer School of Law and served on the Indiana Sheriffs' Association Scholarship Committee.  Matt is a past-President of the Monroe County Bar Association; is a member of the Indiana State Bar Association, the American Legion, and the Northside Exchange Club; and is a den leader for Cub Scout Pack 136.

 

Matt lives in Bloomington with his wife and children.

KARA REAGAN

BIO

Kara Reagan grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana.  Prior to forming Schulz Reagan, LLC, she practiced with Stafford Law Office for twelve years, focusing primarily on family law. 

As a family law attorney, Kara has been Collaboratively trained since 2008 and has handled numerous divorces and other matters using the Collaborative process. In addition to advocating for clients in both Collaborative and non-Collaborative settings, Kara serves as  a Domestic Relations Mediator and Guardian ad Litem for children in court processes.


She is a Past-President of the Board of  Directors for the Indiana Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC). Being involved with the AFCC has afforded her the opportunity to attend cross-trainings with mental health professionals including Child Custody Evaluators, Psychologists, Parenting Time Supervisors, Co-Parent Therapists and others, and to gain valuable insights about how best to help clients resolve conflict for the long-term. Kara is also a founding member and former Co-President of the Bloomington Association of Collaborative Professionals (BACP).  

In 2013, Kara won the Indiana University Maurer School of Law Pro Bono Award, and she was rated as a Rising Star by SuperLawyers in 2014.  Kara lives in Bloomington with her husband and their children.  She leads a multi-age Girl Scout troop and volunteers at her daughters' schools.  


JUSTIN HARRISON

BIO

Justin Harrison is an experienced litigator who focuses his law practice in the areas of estate planning, small business, and real estate.  Justin was raised in Denver, Colorado, and moved to Bedford, Indiana in high school. He attended Indiana University and earned a BA in Journalism in 1996. He returned to IU for Law School in 2002.  He started his legal practice in Chicago, Illinois as an associate at an insurance defense firm where he gained valuable experience working with some of the region’s best trial attorneys. 

In 2010, Justin and his family relocated back to Bloomington and began focusing his practice on the litigation needs of individuals and small businesses in and around Monroe County. Since his return, Justin has assisted clients in litigation related to real property, including border disputes, easement disputes, real estate fraud, construction disputes, landlord-tenant disputes and other matters. Justin has also litigated marriage dissolutions, paternity disputes, guardianship actions and other family law matters. 

Justin also advises clients outside of court in the areas of estate planning and real estate representation. He prepares prenuptial agreements, health care representative designations, powers of attorney, trusts, and last will and testaments. He drafts and advises clients regarding real estate purchase agreements, installment contracts, easement agreements, leases, and construction agreements. 

Justin is proud to have taken advantage of Bloomington’s ample opportunities for community service. Justin is a past president and former board member of Stone Belt ARC, Inc., an organization dedicated to improving the lives of adults with disabilities by integrating them into their communities and ensuring that they have the opportunity to live full and meaningful lives. He was a member of the Board of Directors for the Area 10 Agency on Aging, which provides a variety of services to benefit the lives of senior citizens in southern Indiana. He regularly provides pro bono representation to Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) in cases involving endangered children. He has assisted students at the Maurer School of Law with representation of people seeking protective orders through the IU Protective Order Project. He has previously served on the Board of Directors at the Bloomington Development and Learning Center (BDLC) and for SEED Corp., whose mission was to support first-time entrepreneurs across Southern Indiana.
